The aggregates accounting service

The production of aggregates is concentrated in the vicinity of growth areas, cities and the largest population centres, where the need to coordinate the supply of extractable soil resources as well as other forms of land use, groundwater resources and environmental perspectives are emphasised. The same areas also have a need for information on the reserves and collection of aggregates.

The aggregates accounting service has been created by merging the data on the extraction and monitoring collected in accordance with the Land Extraction Act and GTK’s data on aggregate resources, which gives us information about the remaining aggregate reserves. Also the environmental administration's information on ground water areas and nature conservation materials as well as the base maps and information on administrative borders from the National Land Survey of Finland have been included in the service.

The development of the accounting service has included GTK, the Ministry of the Environment, the Finnish Environment Institute, the Uusimaa and West Finland Regional Environment Centres, the City of Hyvinkää, and INFRA ry. The service is meant for anyone interested in aggregates, with the main users being firms and other parties in the aggregate field, the Finnish Road Administration and VR, construction material industry, landowners, licensing and environmental authorities, as well as design companies.

Soil and rock aggregate information in the service is gathered from GTK databases, and all usage rights are owned by GTK. Data on nature conservation, Natura and ground water areas originate from the Finnish Environment Institute's Oiva service. Rights to this material are owned by Syke. Base map data comes through the interface service of the National Land Survey of Finland, and its rights are owned by the National Land Survey of Finland. Information on permits, permit areas and monitoring comes from the environmental administration. More detailed information about the terms and rights of use and their updates is available elsewhere in the service. The contents of the accounting service are updated regularly, but you should be aware that the information contained in the service might not be up to date.

Soil reserve accounting information is accurate (as of 2008) only for some of the sand and gravel formations in the main Helsinki consumption area. However, GTK actively updates the reserve information according to the preliminary update schedule by consumption area.

The parties involved in developing the service strive to offer error-free information in the service. However, the user is always responsible for the use of the service and the information it contains. The service and its data are under continuous development, and are subject to change or omission without prior notification.

All comments and suggestions relating to the functionality and materials of the service are welcome.
